Lions’ DeBiasse up for award

The Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation has nominated Lawrence High’s Nick DeBiasse as a finalist for the High School Athlete of the Year.

The awards banquet will take place in the Kansas City Convention Center’s grand ballroom June 19th.

The Kansas chapter of the College Football Hall of Fame honored him as one of the top 11 football scholar-athletes. DeBiasse started at tight end and linebacker for the Lions football team and helped guide the baseball team to a third-place finish at the Class 6A state tournament this year.

Other finalists for the award are Derek Washington of Raymore-Peculiar, Conner Teahan of Rockhurst High School, Scott O’Donnell of Oak Park High, Michelle Jantsch of St. Teresa’s Academy, McKynlee Westman of Smithville, Logan Thorp of Blue Springs, Demetrius Bell of Olathe East, Luke Tanner of Shawnee Mission East, Brittney Miller of Paola, Megan Bickford of Olathe South and Amanda Miller of Olathe East.
