Police calls

¢ A Missouri man was ticketed for animal cruelty after Lawrence police said he left a dog unattended in his car Saturday near Seventh and New Hampshire streets.

A Lawrence municipal ordinance makes it illegal to leave an animal alone in a car for more than five minutes when the temperature is hotter than 80 degrees, police said. The temperature reached 90 degrees Saturday.

Police said they see an increase in animal cruelty calls when the weather gets hotter.

¢ A 23-year-old Lawrence male reported $1,000 worth of criminal damage to a 2000 Nissan on the 100 block of Indian Avenue between 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Friday.

¢ A 25-year-old Lawrence man reported auto theft worth $15,000. The vehicle, a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck that was on the 3000 block of Iowa Street, was recovered. The incident occurred between 1 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Friday.
