Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence Police were dispatched to the parking lot at Checkers, 2300 La., at 3:37 a.m. Friday for a possible armed robbery.

John Pringle, 39, no address, reported he was following a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old Lawrence man who had allegedly robbed him. Pringle reported he had met the suspect a couple of weeks earlier. According to a police report, he called the suspect and asked for money for a hotel room.

The two had met in the Checkers parking lot, where, the victim told police, the suspect approached him as he was sitting in a vehicle and asked the victim for cash.

Pringle showed the suspect his money, which the suspect allegedly grabbed, fleeing the scene in his car.

Pringle followed the suspect and used his vehicle to stop the suspect’s vehicle in the 2400 block of Louisiana. The suspect then exited his car, opened the trunk and walked toward the victim shouting threats. Pringle said he believed the suspect had a gun, although he did not observe a weapon.

Police apprehended and later arrested the suspect on charges of aggravated assault and criminal threat. The total amount stolen was $22.

¢ A 33-year-old Lawrence man turned himself into the Douglas County Jail on Monday after he and an unidentified man allegedly stole groceries from the Hy-Vee grocery store, 4000 W. Sixth St.

The 39-year-old store manager followed the two men into the parking lot and asked them to produce a receipt or return to the store. The unidentified man proceeded to get into the vehicle and the 33-year-old suspect reportedly attempted to strike the manager before leaving the scene.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ A 32-year-old Lawrence man reported $1,000 in damage to a vehicle in the 2100 block of Silicon Avenue Wednesday. The incident took place around 6 p.m. July 7.

¢ Almost $3,000 worth of stolen items were reported on Thursday. A 57-year-old Lawrence man reported the theft of a cherry red Gibson electric guitar, a lamp, a powertool and a box of financial reports. The total was $2,875. The theft happened between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Thursday on the 400 block of Hutton Circle.
