Law enforcement report
¢ Police were involved in a foot chase around 9 a.m. Tuesday while attempting to investigate a vehicle with illegal tags. An officer tried to stop the vehicle near 27th and Iowa streets, but when the officer got out of his car, the driver continued south to 33rd Street.
Lawrence police later arrested a 25-year-old Lawrence woman, identified as the driver of the vehicle. They also arrested a 24-year-old man who tried to run away, but an officer working another case in the area caught him.
According to jail records, the woman was arrested on charges of eluding police, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, driving with an expired vehicle tag and two outstanding warrants in Thomas and Saline counties. She was free Tuesday evening on $2,025 bond.
The man was arrested on a charge of obstruction. He is also on parole for two earlier convictions, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records. He remained in jail Tuesday night.
Burglaries and thefts reported
¢ A 20-year-old Lawrence woman reported the theft of $1,600 in computer equipment Saturday from her residence in the 600 block of Gateway Court. The items stolen included a Sony Vaio laptop valued at $1,000.
¢ A 40-year-old Lawrence man reported $1,400 in damage and theft early Tuesday from his residence in the 1300 block of Tennessee Street. A window, valued at $100, was broken and $800 worth of leather coats and $500 in men’s clothing were stolen.
Injury accidents
¢ A pedestrian who was struck about 12:25 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of New Hampshire Street was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and released. The 24-year-old victim, Janee V. Henderson, Kansas City, Kan., was hit when she was walking west toward Last Call. She had almost reached the sidewalk when a southbound Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Michael D. Tiffany, 25, of Lawrence, struck her. Henderson was cited for unlawfully being in the roadway.
¢ A 53-year-old Oskaloosa man was taken to a Topeka hospital Tuesday afternoon when his vehicle was rear-ended on westbound U.S. Highway 24 west of Williamstown.
Duane Heston, 53, was slowing his 1992 Chevrolet truck around 4 p.m. for another turning vehicle when a 1996 Nissan van, driven by Craig Welker, 27, Topeka, struck the truck from behind.
Welker was not injured. Heston was wearing his seat belt and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, where he was later released, a nursing supervisor said.
