Top prep remains undecided

Blue-chip basketball recruit Rotnei Clarke did not commit to Kentucky following an unofficial recruiting trip to Lexington last weekend.

The 6-foot guard from Claremore, Okla., plans to take some official visits in the fall before choosing a school.

“Rotnei wouldn’t commit during his visit,” his dad, Conley, told Rivals.com. “His mother and I wouldn’t allow him to do that. I will say that Kentucky is a school he could see himself playing at.”

The No. 79 player in the Class of 2008 is also considering Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Gonzaga, Marquette, Oral Roberts and others.

“We’ve been to Kansas for Late Night the last three years,” Conley Clarke said. “We are going to attend Kansas or Kentucky for Midnight Madness this year. Rotnei has been to Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arkansas for visits, so he wants to see some other schools.”

¢ Warren still undecided: Willie Warren did not commit to Baylor over the weekend. The 6-3 guard from North Crowley High in suburban Fort Worth, Texas, still is considering BU, KU, Kentucky, Texas, Marquette, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and others.

¢ Arthur looking good: KU sophomore forward Darrell Arthur has been impressive at USA Basketball’s Under 19 training camp in Dallas.

“Arthur looked more serious, poised and confident than at any point during his freshman season at Kansas,” said Seth Davis of Sports Illustrated. “During 5-on-5 play, Arthur did most of his damage on the block, but he showed impressive shooting range during drills. I expect him to be an All-American next season at Kansas before becoming an NBA lottery pick.”

Arthur, who had six points and three blocks in Sunday’s U.S. exhibition victory over China, said: “I’m a lot smarter than I was at this point last year. The thing those guys (incoming freshmen) will learn most is that you have to work hard every play. You might think you’re playing hard coming out of high school, but once the coaches put that film on you and show you what you’re doing, you start to learn.”

Obviously it’s way early, but Chad Ford and Fran Fraschilla of ESPN.com both have Arthur the No. 5 pick in next year’s NBA Draft. NBAdraft.net has Arthur as the projected No. 7 pick, while Draftexpress.com lists Arthur as the No. 14 pick.
