College football recruiting is reaching its final few weeks, and Kansas University’s football team quickly is putting the wraps on a solid class.

Rivals.com reports the Jayhawks received an oral commitment Friday from one of their long-sought recruits. Dezmon Briscoe, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound wide receiver out of Cedar Hill, Texas, chose Kansas over scholarship offers from Boise State, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma State, TCU, Tulsa and Houston.

Kansas has been after Briscoe for some time. The receiver visited KU along with high school teammate William Cole two weeks ago, then took visits to Boise State and Iowa before deciding.

“He really liked all three schools,” Cedar Hill coach Joey McGuire told Rivals. “But the chance to play in the Big 12 where his parents could see him play was also a big draw for Kansas.”

Briscoe had 708 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns for Cedar Hill’s state-championship team last year, but his efforts may have been overshadowed by his teammate, also a KU recruit.

Cole, Cedar Hill’s quarterback, starred in the state championship game and is considering Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Nebraska. He will move to receiver or cornerback in college.

Signing day is Feb. 7. The Jayhawks are expected to have around 18 sign that day. Four others – Chet Hartley, Patrick Resby, Kendrick Harper and Drew Dudley – graduated at semester and already are in Lawrence.

¢Stephenson chooses OU: As one top target committed, another chose to go elsewhere.

Blue Springs (Mo.) offensive lineman Donald Stephenson committed to Oklahoma this week, according to Rivals. Stephenson was a one-time KU commit who quickly decided to re-open his recruitment, though he kept Kansas high on his list.

¢Former Jayhawk signs: Former KU standout Ron Warner has signed a contract with the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League.

Warner most recently played for the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers, but before that had NFL stints with the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins.
