LHS wrestlers victorious

? Even short-handed, Lawrence High’s wrestling team had more than enough firepower to remain undefeated in dual meets after it claimed a 46-36 victory Wednesday at Leavenworth.

Five Lions sat out the meet to stay under Kansas State High School Activities Association rules limiting participation.

“Considering that, we did OK,” Lawrence coach Mark Dulgarian said. “We got out to a 40-6 lead in the lightweights, and that helped us.”

Curiously, all but two of Wednesday’s matches were decided by pin. The Lions’ Chris Lane won at 125 pounds by forfeit, and Lawrence’s Brian Cain won at 145 by major decision, 18-9.

Lawrence will travel Friday to the two-day Blue Valley Northwest tournament. The Lions will put their 8-0 dual record on the line Tuesday at Free State.
