Lions liven up after break

Taylor Bird scored 20 points – all in the second half – as Lawrence High built on a one-point halftime lead to blow out K.C. Turner, 63-29, in girls basketball Tuesday.

The Lions outscored Turner 44-11 in the second half with help from Katelyn Hobbs, who scored 10 of her 11 points after the break.

“We played slow and monotonous and back on our heels in the first half,” LHS coach Kristin Mallory said. “In the second half, we pushed the tempo and pressured on the defensive end.”

Bird sat out the entire second quarter with foul trouble, and the Lions managed only four points that period.

The Lions improved to 5-4 and will play K.C. (Mo.) Lincoln Prep on Jan. 22.
