Home near Linwood destroyed by fire

A Monday evening fire destroyed a home near Linwood.

No people were inside the house, according to a Leavenworth County sheriff’s report, but a dog was missing after the fire.

“There’s nothing left of (the house),” said Dan Tallman, chief of the Sherman Township Fire Department.

Investigators with the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office were investigating what caused the fire at the residence in the 18000 block of Cantrell Road.

Firefighters were called about 5 p.m. to the two-story, 3,500-square-foot residence. They had the fire under control about 7:15 p.m., Tallman said.

The house was listed as a total loss, and investigators were trying to determine a cause Tuesday. Tallman said he had not yet determined a dollar amount of damage.

According to the sheriff’s report, Richard C. Kasper, 60, was the property owner.
