Law enforcement report

¢ A 20-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Thursday on warrants issued by the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for three counts of forgery.

The man allegedly forged three checks between Dec. 6 and Dec. 8, 2005.

One check was worth $250, another was $475 and the amount of the third check was unavailable.

¢ Lawrence police responded to reports of gunshots at the 700 block of California Street and the 2000 block of West Sixth Street in the early morning hours of Feb. 21.

The origin of the sound wasn’t found and no suspects were located.

¢ A 26-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Thursday morning on a warrant for aggravated battery, criminal damage to property and an outstanding county warrant.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ Lawrence police are investigating reports that someone made an alleged false writing and stole $2,902 in lottery tickets and $445 in cash from Wednesday through Friday from Jayhawk Gas and Food Inc., 424 N. Iowa St. Police continue to investigate, but they have spoken with a 26-year-old Lawrence man in connection with the incident.

¢ Between 10:40 p.m. and 10:51 p.m. Wednesday night, someone took an audio amplifier and a stereo valued at $600 from inside a Jeep Wrangler and also caused $500 in damage to the vehicle in the 1600 block of Edgehill Drive.

Injury accidents

¢ A 23-year-old Lawrence man was taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle accident at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at 11th and Massachusetts streets, according to a Lawrence police report.

A 1983 BMW, driven by Charles Simpson, 39, Lawrence, tried to turn left from the eastbound lane of 11th Street and struck a westbound vehicle driven by Nicholas Combs. Combs was transported by medics with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

No one else involved was injured.

¢ A 63-year-old Tonganoxie man went to the hospital Friday afternoon when his motorcycle left the road and went into a ditch.

Larry C. Jellison, 63, was headed southbound on 246th Street in Leavenworth County when his motorcycle left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a barbed wire fence.

He was taken to Kansas University Hospital. No update on his condition was available Friday night.
