Police arrested a 25-year-old Lawrence man for domestic battery Tuesday night in a case first reported as a possible abduction.

The alleged victim is a 20-year-old female acquaintance.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about 5:40 p.m. that a woman may have been abducted in a neighborhood just north of the Lawrence city limits.

A witness reported seeing the woman being pulled into a vehicle in the 1700 section of East 1300 Road, which is the extension of North Iowa Street. Around 6 p.m., a sheriff’s deputy was stringing crime-scene tape around a home in the neighborhood.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Kari Wempe said deputies arrested the man after interviewing him and the alleged victim. Further details weren’t available Tuesday evening.
