Law enforcement report

¢ An employee of Cross Town Tavern told police Saturday that a man walked up to the front door of the business holding a handgun.

Police were called early Saturday to the bar at 1910 Haskell Ave. in response to a complaint of a fight outside possibly involving weapons.

The employee said two unidentified men had been fighting inside, and one of the men was kicked out. When that man tried to re-enter the bar with the handgun, the employee locked the door and told another employee to call the police.

The incident is still under investigation.

¢ Police responded to three charges of discharging a firearm over the weekend – one resulting in police confiscating a weapon.

Police responded to two incidents Saturday night when several residents heard gunshots. One was in the 700 block of East 13th Street and the other in the 1600 block of East 18th Street.

Earlier Saturday, police responded to the 500 block of Fireside Drive, where they issued a citation to a 24-year-old Lawrence man for discharging a firearm within city limits. Police found him with a Kimar 911 blank-firing pistol, a Smith and Wesson .357 revolver and one .38 caliber shell casing.

¢ Police are investigating a report they received last week that a 20-year-old Lawrence man raped an 18-year-old Kansas City, Mo., woman inside a parked vehicle somewhere along 23rd Street.

The suspect was a recent acquaintance of the victim, police said.
