Two killed in separate car-train collisions

A man and woman were killed over the weekend in separate fatal car-train collisions in south-central Kansas.

Gwenavere McReynolds, 21, of Meade, died after her car was struck Saturday by a Union Pacific train, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Her 2-year-old son was with her but wasn’t injured. The accident occurred about 5 p.m. east of Arlington in Reno County.

Benjamin Halford, 43, of Stafford, was killed Sunday when his sport utility vehicle was struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Amtrak passenger train about 2 a.m., the patrol said. The accident happened east of Stafford and within 20 miles of the crash that killed McReynolds.
