Columbia, Mo. ? The record books will forever show Bill Self’s 300th coaching victory came against Kansas University’s border rival, Missouri – in a game at MU, even.

“I think winning at Missouri has significance, period,” Self said after the Jayhawks dismantled the Tigers, 92-74, Saturday at Mizzou Arena.

“Having it be win No. 300? No, I won’t think about it in that regard.”

Self, who improved to 10-2 all-time against Missouri, ran his overall record to 300-133 in 14 seasons. He is 93-28 in four years at KU.

“Not much, to be honest,” Self said, asked what his milestone victory meant. “I didn’t even think about it until yesterday. Five hundred or 600 would mean a lot more. Hopefully we’ll be around awhile and get a lot more. You lose 18 in a row (as he did at ORU his first year), and you wonder if you’ll just make it to the end of the season.”

Another coach in the Big 12, Bob Knight, this year became the country’s all-time winningest Div. I men’s coach.

“I told our staff I’ve coached 14 years. If I coach 28 more, we can get to 900,” Self said with a smile. “For now, 300 is great.”
