Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ Lawrence police are investigating the theft of personal property valued at $1,139.50 from a vehicle in a parking lot in the 1200 block of East 15th Street. A 48-year-old Shawnee woman alleges the items were taken between 6:55 p.m. and 7:32 p.m. Thursday.

¢ The Kansas University Public Safety Office issued a crime alert Friday afternoon that warned students to lock their dorm rooms even if they’re inside after two reported burglaries in Oliver Hall overnight Wednesday.

During the reported incidents, someone entered two male residents’ rooms through unlocked doors while the occupants were asleep. The suspect removed an Apple iPod from each room, according to the report. Anyone with additional information is asked to call 864-5900 or KU Crime Stoppers at 864-8888.

Fatality accident

¢ According to the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s office, two women died in an accident east of Lansing on Friday night when their vehicle spun out of control and struck a tree. Officers continue to investigate the accident’s cause.

The crash happened at 8 p.m. on Kansas Highway 5 north of McPherson and involved a northbound vehicle. Both occupants wore seat belts, according to the sheriff’s report. The women were not identified Friday night pending notification of family members.
