Rural burglaries, mail being investigated

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a pair of rural burglaries reported Wednesday afternoon – and a trail of mail scattered along a road in the area that may or may not be related to the burglaries.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Kari Wempe said deputies were dispatched about 2:30 p.m. to a burglary alarm in the 400 block of North 2100 Road. While they were in the area, another nearby resident called police dispatchers to report that he heard suspicious noises inside his home.

Deputies found pieces of mail along the road in the area, but as of Wednesday evening Wempe couldn’t say whether they were related to the burglaries.

One of the homeowners gave the sheriff’s department a description of a vehicle and occupants seen in the area, but no one had been arrested as of Wednesday evening.
