Rideau wavied by Bears

Wide receiver Brandon Rideau and the Chicago Bears were expected to reach an injury settlement this week.

Rideau, a Kansas University product, suffered a sprained right ankle in the third quarter of the Bears’ 27-24 loss to Indianapolis on Aug. 20 and was waived Monday.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Rideau caught five passes in the Bears’ first two preseason games and had a shot at becoming the club’s sixth wide receiver until suffering the injury.

During a four-year KU career that ended in 2004, Rideau caught 131 passes for 1,636 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2005.

Rideau made the final cut, but injuries restricted his appearances.

He was waived by the Browns in the 2006 preseason and later added to the Bears’ practice squad.
