KU defensive tackle Haselhorst on mend

Kansas University defensive tackle Todd Haselhorst is almost healed from a summer injury that has limited him so far in preseason camp.

“He’s working out on the field, doing a lot of things,” KU coach Mark Mangino said Monday during the Big 12 coaches conference call. “He’ll be full tilt (today). We’re going to keep a close eye on him. He looks pretty good, but he’s still recovering. We don’t know what exactly his status will be Saturday.”

Haselhorst has missed much of the last two seasons recovering from an injury unrelated to the one he’s currently getting over.

He was penciled in as a starter at tackle on the post-spring depth chart, but has been replaced by Caleb Blakesley due to missing most of the August preseason workouts.

Mangino was noncommittal on whether Haselhorst would play against Central Michigan, but the possibility exists.

“We think that he has a great opportunity to play, our medical staff does,” Mangino said. “We just have to see, with a little bit of a workload this week, how he handles it.”
