Lawrence-Douglas County planning commissioners will consider a special use permit for a proposed boathouse in Burcham Park at their meeting Wednesday.

Kansas University leaders have proposed building a $6 million boathouse at Burcham Park, Second and Indiana streets, to house the university’s rowing team.

Planning commissioners will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.

Other agenda items include:

¢ A hearing for a revised Southern Development Plan, a land use plan for the area south of 31st Street.

¢ A briefing from the Kansas Department of Transportation on the statewide long-range transportation planning process.

Planning commissioners deferred the main item scheduled for their Monday meeting. Commissioners were scheduled to hear a request for a special use permit for renovation of 637 Tenn. But the applicant, Serina Hearn, asked that the hearing be delayed for one month. Hearn and the city’s legal staff are investigating whether she actually needs the permit to begin renovations.
