Kansas University has finished up its scheduling for the 2008 football season, assuring the Jayhawks of seven games at Memorial Stadium once again.

Kansas will have four Big 12 Conference games at Memorial Stadium in ’08, and three of its four nonconference games.

That’s the same total as the upcoming 2007 season, but a different path – this fall’s slate will have four nonconference games and three Big 12 games in Lawrence.

For 2008, Kansas will start with nonconference games against Florida International and Louisiana Tech at Memorial Stadium. The Jayhawks then will travel to Tampa, Fla., to play South Florida, before returning to Lawrence and finishing the nonconference season with NCAA Division I-AA Sam Houston State.

The 2008 conference schedule then will have four games at Memorial Stadium, including Texas Tech, Texas, Colorado and Kansas State.

In addition, a 2008 game originally scheduled to be played at Missouri will instead be played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., as part of the already-publicized two-game agreement at Arrowhead between the Border War rivals. The first game of that deal – originally a Kansas home game – will take place Nov. 24 of this year.

KU’s three nonconference home games in 2008 are guaranteed games, meaning the contract doesn’t call for the Jayhawks playing those opponents on the road in the future. The South Florida game will conclude a home-and-home contract. USF played KU in Lawrence last year.

For beyond 2008, Kansas still has several vacancies in its nonconference schedule, though deals have been struck with Duke (2009-10) and Rice (2010-13).

¢ Draft upcoming: The NFL Draft starts Saturday in New York, and by the end of the weekend hundreds of college players will have their immediate futures mapped out.

That’s expected to include at least two Jayhawks – running back Jon Cornish and defensive end Rodney Allen. Cornish is a possible late-round draft pick, though both are expected to at least sign undrafted free-agent deals Sunday evening.

Other possibilities to get free-agent offers include defensive tackle Wayne Wilder and wide receiver Brian Murph.

¢ Lamb honored: Former KU wide receiver Johnathan Lamb was named to the National Football Foundation’s inaugural National Honor Society.

A total of 345 players were honored, with the requirements being significant contributions on the field, a 3.2 or higher grade point average and completion of NCAA-mandated progress toward a degree.

Lamb, who played the 2006 season already having earned a bachelor’s degree, was KU’s top punt-return specialist and caught 14 passes for 216 yards.

¢ Ex-Jayhawks update: Former KU linebacker Nick Reid currently is in Germany playing for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe.

Reid was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs and allocated to the Galaxy earlier this year. He’s listed atop the Galaxy’s depth chart at outside linebacker, and is third on the team with 12 tackles after two games.

Another former Jayhawk, wide receiver Leo Bookman, was released by the Oakland Raiders this week after spending last season on their practice squad.
