KU faculty recital features sacred solos

Forrest Pierce, Kansas University assistant professor of composition, will present a free recital titled “Sacred Solos” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

Works on the program include meditative and virtuosic solo pieces written in the last decade, inspired by the mystical landscape of the individual’s relationship to the divine.

Pierce will perform with various KU faculty and doctoral students. He joined the faculty in 2006 as assistant professor of composition and director of the Helianthus Contemporary Ensemble. He has taught at Lewis & Clark College and the University of Texas, and has served as artistic director of the Friends of Rain contemporary ensemble, and as composer-in-residence of the Seattle New Music Ensemble.
