Late errors doom Lions in loss
Olathe ? Olathe East scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning against Lawrence High closer Jordan Guntert, handing the Lions a 6-5 baseball loss Tuesday at the College Boulevard Athletic Complex.
“What killed us was our three errors,” LHS coach Brad Stoll said. “Two of our errors allowed three runs.”
Daniel Parker and Tony Williams homered for LHS. Williams’ three-run blast was part of a four-run fourth inning that put the Lions on top, 5-1. They didn’t score again.
“We tried to throw a knockout punch in the fifth,” Stoll said, “and we didn’t do it. After the fourth inning, we just weren’t aggressive, and we didn’t put any pressure on them at all.”
Williams and Aaron Rea each went 2-for-3 to pace LHS at the plate.
The Lions fell to 5-3 and will play Omaha (Neb.) Creighton Prep at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Kansas University’s Hoglund Ballpark.
“We were just glad to play after 12 days,” Stoll said of the weather-forced cancellations. “We’re fired up. We have a good team, so there’s no need to press the panic button.”
