LHS boys tennis competes in quad

? Lawrence High’s Anthony Frei and David Nieton doubled up to face Topeka Washburn Rural’s No. 1 doubles team – the defending Kansas Class 6A state doubles champions – and lost 8-1. But that one game win is what sticks out.

“That was pretty huge to be able to win one against the state champs,” LHS coach Steve Hudson said about Thursday’s quad meet at the Kossover Tennis Center.

Frei and Nieton also picked up a doubles win over Topeka Seaman, 8-3. But the tandem of Ryan Abbott and Taylor Seratte provided the most points.

Playing in the No. 2 doubles spot, Abbott and Serratte beat a team from Topeka West, 8-6, and from Seaman, 8-1.

Lawrence High picked up just one win in singles action when No. 2 Travis Gage defeated Seaman’s No. 2, 8-3.
