Railroad leader lectures today at KU

The head of one of the country’s largest railroads plans to discuss the volatility of the industry’s supply and demand during a lecture tonight at Kansas University.

Matthew Rose, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., is scheduled to deliver the annual Anderson Chandler Lecture at 7 p.m. at the Lied Center.

The event, sponsored by the School of Business, is free and open to the public.

In his lecture, “Future Transportation Crisis,” Rose is scheduled to discuss the relationship between freight demands and rail capacity – how the industry previously suffered through idle railcars on unused tracks, only to see demand for freight services surge and put pressure on the abilities of railroads to meet needs.
