How they scored

FIRST QUARTER

6:22 – Dexton Fields 11 pass from Kerry Meier. KU orchestrated an 80-yard drive thanks to Meier’s arm and Jon Cornish’s legs. Cornish rushed for 28 yards on four carries, while Meier started the drive with a nice 29-yard completion to Marcus Herford. The last play was a slant route over the middle, with Fields making a nice catch in the end zone. Scott Webb kick. (Kansas 7, Louisiana-Monroe 0).

2:02 – Zeek Zacharie 59 pass from Kinsmon Lancaster. Kansas had ULM facing a third-and-seven situation at the Warhawk 41-yard line, but Lancaster threw a strike to Zacharie, who shed cornerback Raymond Brown and ran down the right sideline untouched. Ragan Walters kick. (Kansas 7, Louisiana-Monroe 7).

SECOND QUARTER

1:02 – Marcus Henry 3 pass from Kerry Meier. A 46-yard screen pass from Meier to Cornish kick-started a 13-play, 80-yard drive. It appeared to stall with goal-to-go, but after a timeout, Meier found Henry, who made a nice grab on the high pass for the score. Scott Webb kick. (Kansas 14, Louisiana-Monroe 7).

THIRD QUARTER

9:23 – Kerry Meier 10 run. Kansas finally showed clout on offense, moving 80 yards in just eight plays for the score. Cornish had a juking-and-jiving pickup of 22 yards to put Kansas in striking distance, and Meier found an open hole on the left side and sprinted in untouched. Scott Webb kick. (Kansas 21, Louisiana-Monroe 7).

1:18 – Kinsmon Lancaster 9 run. Monroe jumped right back into the game, thanks to a 55-yard bomb from Lancaster to Joe Merritt, which put ULM inside the five-yard line. After a four-yard loss, Lancaster scooted in up the middle for six. Ragan Walters kick sailed wide right. (Kansas 21, Louisiana-Monroe 13).

FOURTH QUARTER

3:31 – Zacharie 3 pass from Lancaster. Lancaster used his arm to move ULM down the field on an 81-yard drive. Completions of 28 and 33 yards stunned the KU faithful, and a quick slant to Zacharie gave ULM its third touchdown. A false-start penalty moved ULM’s two-point conversion try to the seven-yard line, and Lancaster’s pass fell incomplete. (Kansas 21, Louisiana-Monroe 19).
