Parade highlights Band Day activities

Kansas University’s 59th annual Band Day is set for Saturday, during KU’s Family Weekend. More than 30 area high school marching bands are expected to participate.

Band Day activities include a downtown parade beginning at 1:30 p.m. and a performance during halftime of the KU-Louisiana-Monroe football game, which kicks off at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

The parade will begin at Seventh and Massachusetts streets, travel south and end at South Park, near 11th and Massachusetts streets.

Hosts for the events are the Marching Jayhawks and the department of music and dance in KU’s School of Fine Arts.

In addition to Lawrence High School and Free State High School, bands from high schools in Baldwin, Perry-Lecompton, Ottawa, Shawnee Heights, McLouth and Tonganoxie are expected to participate.
