Law enforcement report

¢ Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of gunshots being fired in Lecompton early Sunday afternoon – gunshots that may have triggered a car chase and car wreck.

A caller phoned emergency dispatchers at 12:39 p.m. Sunday reporting the gunshots. About that time, two vehicles collided at the intersection of Third and Isacks streets in Lecompton.

Neighbors in the area said they heard the collision and later heard that the two cars had been chasing each other. From what other neighbors said after being questioned by officers, the gunshots, fired elsewhere, were apparently related.

Neighbors said one car left the scene of the wreck.

Lt. Kari Wempe, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office, said Sunday that she did not know much about the incident except that it began with a trespassing call.

Wempe also said there were several addresses involved.
