Law enforcement report
¢ A Leavenworth woman reported to the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office there that someone sent her a $4,500 check, promising her $80,000 if she cashed the check and mailed the money back.
According to a report, Brenda Highfill reported that she could keep $500 of the money upfront if she sent a $4,000 money order to a suspect in Houston. The bank notified Highfill later that the original check was counterfeit.
¢ Lawrence Police are investigating a report that an 18-year-old Lawrence man struck two girls, aged 4 and 16, with an Oldsmobile Alero on Oct. 12 while driving through a neighborhood.
According to a report, ambulances responded to the 1900 block of West 31st Street, but neither victim required treatment.
