Full strength: Kansas University quarterback Kerry Meier said after Saturday’s game that he felt fine, and coach Mark Mangino said Monday there was no lingering soreness from a shoulder injury that held him out three games.

“He’s 100 percent fine,” Mangino said. “As far as the injury that he had sustained, there was no effects of that at all.”

Meier passed for 187 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 70 more yards. He was named offensive player of the week by the KU coaching staff.

“He had three weeks off and now we’re going to put him back out there, you always wonder how he’s going to adjust, how he’s going to adapt,” Mangino said. “He adapted very well.”

Same structure: Mangino said no routine changes would take place despite the three-game losing streak.

“That’s a sign of panic,” Mangino said. “The way we handle things here have served us well. There’s just some things that we have to overcome. Changing your routine, changing how you do things sends a bad signal to the players.”

Still the man: Kansas appears to have its cornerback position set. Aqib Talib could be All-Big 12 by the end of the season, and freshman Anthony Webb has the other spot locked down despite some struggles.

“He’s the best candidate we have,” Mangino said. “He’s a tough kid. When he gets beat, he doesn’t pout about it. He really has some toughness to him.

“Certainly there’s some learning issues and the pains that go with that. But we feel at the end of the day he’s going to be a heck of a player for us.”

Players of the game: Along with Meier’s honor, kick-return specialist Marcus Herford was named special teams player of the week.

There was no defensive player selected, after the Cowboys had 603 yards of total offense against the Jayhawks.
