Judge postpones hearing in Wakarusa festival drug case

A man arrested on suspicion of dealing ecstasy at this year’s Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival made a trip from New York last week for a hearing in Douglas County, where the state was expected to present evidence.

But Deputy Dist. Atty. Bob Claus said prosecutors did not yet have lab results from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on the suspected drugs, and he asked that the case be postponed.

Judge Martin rescheduled the hearing for Jan. 11.

The defendant is Joseph P. Beuregard, of Altamont, N.Y., who was 25 at the time of his arrest. His attorney, Sarah Swain, did not oppose the delay.
