A five-vehicle pileup on Iowa Street coincided with “Late Night in the Phog” traffic Friday night.

No one was taken to the hospital after the accident that forced police officers to close both southbound lanes in the 2100 block of the busy street for about 10 minutes about 10 p.m., said Sgt. Michael Monroe, a Lawrence Police spokesman.

Several people suffered minor injuries in the accident, and they were treated at the scene but not transported, Monroe said. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical workers extricated one person from a vehicle.

Monroe said the accident started when one vehicle ran into the back of another. The collision caused a chain reaction of vehicles moving forward and striking one another, he said.

A full accident report was not available late Friday.
