Law enforcement report

¢ A 21-year-old Lawrence man who was under arrest Saturday evening managed to unfasten his seat belt while still in handcuffs and in the back seat of a Lawrence Police car, said Sgt. Michael Monroe, a police spokesman.

The car was not equipped with a cage, so an officer called for one that had one, which was brought to the scene in east Lawrence, Monroe said, and the suspect was taken to the Douglas County Jail. Officers had arrested the man at a trailer park in 1908 E. Ninth St. after discovering he had an outstanding warrant.

Monroe said while the officer was transporting the suspect, he made a specific threat to the officer and his family. The man was booked into the jail on a failure to appear in court warrant and charges of making a criminal threat and trying to escape from custody.
