Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence Police officers arrested a Lawrence man Friday afternoon on suspicion of reckless driving after a car struck a bus stop shelter and other objects near 23rd Street and Naismith Drive.

Witnesses said that just after 2 p.m. a driver lost control of his vehicle as it swerved through grass next to the University Book Shop, 1116 W. 23rd St. The vehicle also struck a guardrail at Priscilla’s, 1206 W. 23rd St., while turning north onto Naismith Drive, witnesses told police.

The vehicle stopped back in the grass on the east side of the northbound lanes of Naismith Drive. Witnesses told police the suspect abandoned his vehicle, crossed 23rd Street and ran behind Dillons, 1015 W. 23rd St. Officers later took the suspect into custody outside of Hobby Lobby, 1801 W. 23rd St.

A 26-year-old Lawrence man was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and driving on a revoked license. No injuries were reported. The man remained in jail Friday night held on $300 bond.

Injury accidents

¢ A 21-year-old Parsons woman was injured at 3 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of Maine when a southbound car trying to turn left struck her northbound motorcycle, Lawrence Police said.

Sgt. Susan Hadl said the car’s driver failed to yield to the oncoming motorcycle. The motorcyclist was treated for a broken leg at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Hadl said. Officers did not issue any citations at the scene, she said.

¢ A 68-year-old Lawrence man was injured Thursday evening when his truck crashed near Sixth Street and Queens Road while he tried to avoid a bicyclist.

According to police, Donald Funk was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries after 6 p.m. Thursday when he lost control of his truck and it stopped on an embankment on the north side of Sixth Street. Funk was driving a Ford truck east and was trying to avoid a bicyclist traveling near the south curb. The bicyclist was not injured, police said.

Burglaries and thefts

¢ 6300 block of West 22nd Court – An Ottawa man reported more than $3,000 worth of tools stolen from a trailer used to store equipment for his construction business. It happened between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday.

¢ 2600 Iowa – Two unidentified men are suspected of stealing 10 pairs of sunglasses worth $2,342 total from Eye Doctors, 2600 Iowa, between 3 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. Wednesday. According to a report, the suspects are a white male age 25 to 30, last seen wearing a black fleece shirt and black jeans, and a white male age 50 to 55, with gray hair and a beard, prescription glasses and a brown coat.
