The Fox Sports Net clearance report shows that the Kansas State-Kansas University football game today will be shown in many regions across the country.

Ten of FSN’s regional affiliates will broadcast the game live, ranging from FSN West to FSN South, FSN Southwest, FSN Rocky Mountain, FSN Midwest and even FSN New York.

In addition, six other FSN affiliates will show the game tape-delayed within 24 hours of today’s 2:30 p.m. kickoff.

Today’s game will be shown on most FSN affiliates after another Big 12 Conference game, Oklahoma at Baylor. That game kicks off at 11 a.m.

Today’s game marks the seventh time in the history of the Sunflower Showdown that the game will be televised. Last year’s game, a 12-3 KSU victory, also was aired on FSN.

Lofty comparison: Kansas State coach Ron Prince on Tuesday compared KU running back Jon Cornish to current Chicago Bears tailback Thomas Jones.

Jones played at Virginia, where Prince was offensive coordinator before taking the Kansas State job.

Cornish leads the Big 12 Conference with 1,130 rushing yards this season.

Two hot teams: The last time the Sunflower Showdown arrived with both teams on a winning streak was 1917.

That’s no typo. It has been 89 years since both teams entered this game having won at least two in a row. K-State has won three in a row, while Kansas enters today’s game on a two-game winning streak.

In 1917, Kansas had beaten Emporia State, Washburn and Iowa State before the KSU game. K-State had topped Baker, Oklahoma State, Missouri and Washington University of St. Louis.

Kansas won that 1917 tilt, 9-0.

Recruiting implications?: Some believe that the winner of the annual in-state game gets a leg up in recruiting battles between the two schools.

There may be some truth to that, but at least in-state, the top 15 rated high school seniors according to Rivals.com already have chosen schools.

Six have committed to Kansas State, the highest-rated being Great Bend running back Jeremy Reed.

Three have picked Kansas – Free State High brothers Ryan and Brian Murphy and Haven athlete Isiah Barfield.

Of the rest, two picked Iowa, two Missouri, one Nebraska and one Northwestern.

Signing day isn’t until February, meaning all 15 are bound only by their word at this stage.
