Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence Police recovered a stolen .22-caliber pistol and also seized a Norinco AK-90 rifle early Saturday morning in a traffic stop, but the suspect got away from police at the scene after a scuffle. According to a report, police were called by the Kansas Highway Patrol to investigate a vehicle that left the scene of an injury accident on the Kansas Turnpike. An LPD officer stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of Gateway Court, but the driver, a 26-year-old Emporia man, would not follow the officer’s instructions to stay in the vehicle. He got out, pushed and wrestled with the officer, and ran from the scene, according to a report. Police found a weapon in the suspect’s coat and another weapon in the vehicle he had been driving. Police believe they’ve identified the man, and a report on the case has been sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

¢ A 22-year-old Haskell Indian Nations University student went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital early Saturday morning after being stabbed in a fight at The Reserve apartments, 2511 W. 31st St. His injuries weren’t life-threatening. A 20-year-old Lawrence man also was punched in the fight. Police say two unidentified men are suspects, and they have interviewed one “person of interest.”

Burglaries, thefts reported

¢ Lawrence Police are investigating a report that a 21-year-old man may have damaged an office door and stolen $145 in cash from Ecumenical Christian Ministries, 1204 Oread Ave., in two separate incidents early this month. The door at the ministry was damaged between Nov. 3 and Nov. 4, and the money was stolen between midnight and 4 a.m. Thursday.

¢ Regency Place: a 57-year-old Overland Park man reported his 1997 Acura Integra, valued at $5,000, stolen between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 8:15 a.m. Thursday.

¢ 2700 block of Iowa Street: A 27-year-old Lawrence woman reported her 1988 Chevrolet Camaro, valued at $3,000, stolen between 2:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Thursday. A 36-year-old Lawrence man is the suspect.

¢ 600 block of Gateway Court: An 18-year-old woman reported her Hewlett-Packard laptop computer, valued at $1,875, stolen between 4:15 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Injury accidents

¢ Kansas Highway Patrol troopers in Jefferson County were investigating an injury accident involving an all-terrain vehicle Monday night, dispatchers said. The accident was reported after one person was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital at 9:30 p.m. An accident report was not available Monday night.

¢ One person was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with minor injuries at 6:30 p.m. Monday after an accident near 33rd Street and Nieder Road, said Rob Kort, a battalion chief with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.

¢ A Topeka man, 19-year-old Matthew Joshua Price, was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after his 1999 Ford pickup truck struck the wall and rolled over onto the passenger side at 2:40 a.m. Sunday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the East Lawrence exit, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report.
