Law enforcement report
¢ A 23-year-old woman told Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday that she had been sexually assaulted, the department reported.
The victim said she had been walking in downtown Ottawa about 11 p.m. Wednesday when a person offered her a ride home. Once inside the vehicle, the man refused to take the victim home and instead drove her to the countryside where he assaulted her, the Sheriff’s Department reported.
The case is under further investigation.
Burglaries and thefts reported
¢ 700 block of East 22nd Street: Someone damaged the front door of Automotive Machine & Performance, 715 E. 22nd St., and stole more than $12,000 worth of tools and equipment, including cylinder heads and a laptop computer. It happened between 5 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday, according to a report.
¢ 1800 block of Massachusetts Street: A 52-year-old employee of Diane’s Liquor, 1806 Mass., reported $2,000 worth of his prescription medication stolen from the counter at the business between 3:40 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to a police report.
¢ 700 block of Locust Street: More than $3,000 in property, including a digital-video recorder and a leather coat, was stolen in a home burglary between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to a report.
¢ 2300 block of West 26th Street: A 26-year-old Kansas University student reported a 1998 Acura Integra, valued at $12,000, stolen between 12:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. Wednesday. It was at least the third Acura reported stolen in the past week. Others were reported stolen from the 2100 block of West 26th Street and the 1900 block of Stewart Avenue.
Injury accidents
¢ A 59-year-old motorcyclist from Topeka went to the hospital Thursday morning after he collided with a deer in western Douglas County.
David R. Stahlin Sr. was riding a Honda motorcycle east on County Road 442 about 6:30 a.m. when he collided with a deer about 1/2 mile east of Stull. He was wearing a helmet but was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He later was transferred to University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., but his injuries weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
A hospital spokeswoman said Thursday night that she could not release any information about his condition.
¢ A 41-year-old Topeka woman flipped her car in a ditch Thursday along the Kansas Turnpike just outside of Lecompton.
According to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report, Tracy Ann Hernandez flipped her 1991 Chrysler about 6 p.m. after changing lanes. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical officials extricated Hernandez from her car.
She was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
