How they scored

November 5, 2006

12:28 - Bret Culbertson 36 field goal. Iowa State failed to pick up a first down on its first offensive series, but the field position gained by forcing Kerry Meier to fumble had ISU in range for three, which Culbertson converted. (Iowa State 3, Kansas 0).

9:32 - Brian Murph 50 pass from Kerry Meier. Facing third down and six yards to go, Meier swung out and hit Murph about 10 yards downfield for what should've been a short gain. Murph turned and slipped past two ISU defenders, then outran three more for the unexpected touchdown. Scott Webb point-after kick blocked. (Kansas 6, Iowa State 3).

1:07 - Derek Fine 29 pass from Todd Reesing. With the wind in KU's face, a 47-yard field goal was unrealistic. Kansas went for it on fourth down instead, and Reesing scrambled toward the line of scrimmage and threw a jump ball toward Fine in the right corner of the end zone. Fine and ISU's Jason Harris appeared to have possession as they came down with it, and three officials met near the play before deciding it was Fine's ball. A review upheld the call. Webb kick. (Kansas 13, Iowa State 3).

5:23 - Fine 3 pass from Meier. Kansas went on an eight-play, 43-yard drive, gaining positive yardage on every play. On second and goal, Meier lobbed a pass to the back of the end zone to Fine, who was a step ahead of the coverage. Webb kick. (Kansas 20, Iowa State 3).

:23 - Brandon McAnderson 4 run. A 43-yard pass from Meier to Jonathan Lamb gave Kansas a legitimate chance to score just before halftime. After getting in the red zone, Kansas faced third down on the four-yard line. Meier pitched to McAnderson, who appeared ready to pass the ball. Instead, he tucked it, cut back the opposite direction and scored untouched. Scott Webb kick. (Kansas 27, Iowa State 3).

6:23 - Reesing 1 run. Punting near his own end zone, the Cyclones' Mike Brandtner dropped the snap and then got pummeled by several Jayhawks after picking the ball up, falling at the one-yard line and changing possession. On KU's first offensive play, Reesing ran the option right, kept it and dove into the end zone for the touchdown. Webb kick. (Kansas 34, Iowa State 3).

11:11 - McAnderson 1 run. Kansas moved 90 yards on 12 plays, starting with a 32-yard run by Jon Cornish and continuing with a fourth-down conversion. A Lamb reception put Kansas at the one, and McAnderson bullied it in on the next play. Webb kick. (Kansas 41, Iowa State 3).

4:57 - Ryan Kock 1 run. Iowa State took over at midfield after a botched snap by Reesing and moved 44 yards on 10 plays. On third down and a long one, Kock rammed it up the gut and into the end zone for Iowa State's first touchdown. Culbertson kick. (Kansas 41, Iowa State 10).
