Indictment alleges illegal alien transporting
Federal investigators allege that a man was transporting several illegal aliens Oct. 22 in Douglas County.
On Wednesday in Topeka, a grand jury returned an indictment for Miguel Angel Pereo-Salcedo, 42, on 20 counts of unlawfully transporting illegal aliens and one count of unlawfully re-entering the United States after he was deported, according to U.S. Atty. Eric Melgren’s office.
If convicted, Pereo-Salcedo faces a maximum of five years in prison and a fine as steep as $250,000 on each unlawful transportation count. He faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a fine up to $250,000 on the re-entry charge, according to Melgren’s office.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Atty. Randy Hendershot will prosecute the case, Melgren said.
Pereo-Salcedo’s indictment came the same day that two other men were indicted on charges of transporting illegal aliens in unrelated cases last month in Sherman County and Sedgwick County.
