Former KU art history professor dies at 95

Longtime Kansas University art history professor Erik Larsen died Oct. 18 in Beverly Hills, Fla. He was 95.

Larsen was a faculty member in KU’s art history department from 1967 until his retirement in 1980. An expert on Dutch and Flemish paintings of the 17th century, he studied and wrote about Peter Paul Rubens, Frans Post, Anthony van Dyck and Rembrandt.

A painter and scholar, he authored several books, including “The Complete Catalogue of Peter Paul Rubens’ Works in America” (1952), “Dutch Painting: The Golden Age” (1955), “Rembrandt and the Dutch School” (1967) and “The Paintings of Anthony van Dyck” (1980).
