Motel guest arrested in clerk’s stabbing

Lawrence Police arrested a Lawrence man after a stabbing at a motel early Monday.

William Allen III, 56, was arrested just after 1 a.m. Monday after a clerk at the Lawrence Econo Lodge, 2222 W. Sixth St., reported being stabbed after an altercation with a guest who had been locked out of his room.

Police said the suspect grabbed the clerk, pulled out a folding knife and stabbed him. The clerk got the knife away, ran back to the front desk and called police.

Although arrested for attempted murder, Allen was eventually charged with aggravated battery and booked into Douglas County Jail. A judge set his bond at $10,000.
