Downed power line briefly traps truck driver

There were some tense moments this morning for a truck driver – after a live power line briefly trapped him in his semi just south of Lawrence’s downtown.

Emergency crews were called to the 1800 block of Massachusetts Street just after 9:45 a.m. Friday, when a power line got caught on a U.S. Food Service truck.

Police and firefighters quickly blocked off the parking lot at 1807 Massachusetts St., while the power line dangled from the rear corner of the truck.

The driver stayed in the cab until Westar arrived on the scene and shut off power within 10 minutes. No one was injured.
