World music concert to benefit Tibetans
A benefit concert of world music will be performed to raise funds for books and solar cookers for villages in rural Tibetan areas.
The event will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 2 at Bodyworks Downtown Massage Therapy and Yoga Studio, 13 E. Eighth St.
The concert will include a brief presentation by the Tendel Group about its ongoing work in impoverished Tibetan areas, a short discussion on Tibetan folk music by Jermay, followed by the premiere of a new full-length work for ensemble featuring Lawrence musicians Maria Anthony, Megan Hurt, Stacey Fox, Clark Jamison, Barry Barnes and Rick Yamashiro. The work will consist of world percussion, winds, sitar, violin, chanting and overtone singing.
The event is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted at the door. Attendees are encouraged to bring a pillow or cushion to sit on. For more information, call 856-2379.
