LHS sweeps track titles

? The Lawrence High boys and girls track teams chalked up a handful of multiple winners to claim the team titles in both halves of Thursday’s season-opening Topeka West Mid-Winter Relays at Hummer Sports Park.

The LHS girls almost doubled their closest competitor with 177.5 points. Kristi Taylor won the 100 meters and 400 and ran a leg on one winning relay for the Lions. Jennifer Taylor won the 800 and ran legs on two winning relays, and Amy Magnuson won the long jump and triple jump.

The LHS boys scored 170 to secure a 30-point margin over runner-up Topeka Seaman. Brandon Lassiter won the 100 and ran legs on two winning relays.

“The first thing our kids had to do was brave the cold weather,” LHS coach Scott Stidham said. “We just said, ‘Don’t worry about times, don’t worry about distances, just go compete.'”
