KU graduate to sign new memoir on cancer

Thomas E. Brown Jr. will read from, discuss and sign his new book titled “Men Bleed Too: A Compelling Story About One Man’s Struggle to Help His Wife Fight Breast Cancer!,” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The event will be in the Oread Books lounge, level 2 of the Kansas Union. Brown’s presentation is free and open to the public.

In 1992, Tom Brown’s first wife, Barbara, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She died in August 1994. Tom kept a journal capturing the events that took place during the couple’s battle with the disease. In part the journal was a record of Barbara’s medical journey, but Tom also recorded his candid thoughts and emotions as he became the primary caregiver. With the encouragement of his second wife, Connie, he decided to turn the journal into a book that may be of help to the many caregivers, especially men, who confront this disease and the grieving process.

Brown received a bachelor’s degree from KU in 1970. He lives in Leavenworth.
