Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence police arrested three adults and one juvenile, all from Topeka, for spray painting graffiti Tuesday night behind Round Corner Drug, 801 Mass., Police Sgt. Michael Monroe said.

Monroe said the graffiti was not gang-related.

¢ The Kansas Highway Patrol reported two arrests Tuesday during a driver’s license/sobriety checkpoint at the Kansas Highway 10 junction with Interstate 70. One arrest was made after a driver sped away from the scene, leading troopers on a high-speed pursuit that ended with a foot chase through a nearby field, Lt. Kirk Simone of the patrol said.

A 22-year-old Lawrence man, Charles Pearlman, was booked into Douglas County Jail around 7:30 Tuesday on charges of fleeing a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, among other charges.

Simone also said the patrol would be issuing warnings and tickets to drivers with burned-out headlights, taillights and other faulty equipment.

By Tuesday afternoon, about 100 cars had been stopped, and the checkpoint remained up until midnight.

Simone did not return a call Tuesday night seeking more information.
