LHS soccer players win honors
A trio of Lawrence High girls soccer players have been honored with spots on this spring’s Class 6A all-state teams.
Senior defender Lindsey Lawrence and freshman goaltender Emma Lumpe were voted to the first team after helping the Lions to a 5-9-3 record – a mark skewed by several close losses to teams ranked in the top 10 in the state.
“They (voters) realized that our defense was outstanding and it took all their effort to get two or three goals against us,” said LHS coach Matt Anderson.
Junior midfielder Abby Vestal was voted to the second team.
“When the state results came in I was very excited for the girls and, just for the Lions program, I think it helps make a statement,” Anderson said.
“Almost every coach that we played, they made some type of comment that, ‘This is the best Lawrence team that we’ve played.'”
