Law enforcement report

¢ A Lawrence man was arrested at the Lawrence Public Library Wednesday evening after wrecking his car and leading police on a foot chase through downtown.

The chase began when Lawrence Police attempted to pull a man over for speeding in the 2000 block of Massachusetts early Wednesday evening. The man fled, eventually crashing his car into a stop sign, a tree and another parked car near 13th and Connecticut streets.

He then ran from his crashed car through downtown, to the library where he was eventually arrested.

The man was arrested on charges of fleeing the scene of an accident, eluding law enforcement officers and other traffic violations. He also had warrants out for his arrest.

No one was injured during the incident.

¢ More than $1,000 cash disappeared mysteriously on Monday morning from an office at Royal Crest Lanes, 933 Iowa, according to a report released Wednesday.

The bowling alley’s owner told police he left his office inside the bowling alley about 11 a.m. Monday to fix a malfunctioning lane. When he came back to his office a few minutes later, $1,063 in cash had disappeared from a bank bag in the office. The only people in the business at the time were a business partner and three groups of bowlers, but Lawrence Police spokesman Detective David Anderson said no one has been identified yet as a suspect. The bowlers in the business at the time were cooperative with police and said they didn’t see anything unusual, Anderson said.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ A group of roommates living in the 2200 block of Vail Way told police that an unknown person entered their home while they were sleeping between 2:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and stole more than $3,000 worth of property, including DVDs and camera lenses.

¢ Someone stole more than $3,000 worth of hand tools and power tools about noon Monday from a van parked in the 1800 section of East 1450 Road, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The items belonged to Martin Floor Covering of Lawrence.

Injury accident

¢ Two people went to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a wreck at 13th and Tennessee streets.

James D. White, 38, Lawrence, and Frances Aubuchon, 99, Baldwin, were injured when their southbound 1995 Oldsmobile was struck in the driver’s side at 2:38 p.m. by a driver who was westbound on 13th Street and failed to yield at a stop sign, according to a report. Aubuchon was not wearing a seat belt. Both were taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The driver of the car that struck them, 24-year-old Zalman Tiechtel, of Lawrence, was cited for a stop sign violation. White was cited for driving on a revoked license.
