KU student indicted in fake ID case

A 19-year-old Kansas University student has been indicted in federal court following a fake ID bust last year at Ellsworth Hall.

U.S. Atty. Eric Melgren announced Thursday that Daniel P. Brown, 19, a sophomore from Palos Park, Ill., has been charged with one count of identity theft involving false identification documents.

Prosecutors allege the crime happened between Sept. 1, 2004, and Jan. 31, 2005. Officers raided a room at Ellsworth Hall early last year after an investigation by agencies including the U.S. Secret Service.

Prosecutors did not release details of what they allege Brown had, but they said the case involved Oklahoma and Colorado driver’s licenses.

Brown faces up to three years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
