Lions cruise in dual
LHS quickly pins Leavenworth in dual

Lawrence High head coach Mark Dulgarian shouts during the dual against Leavenworth High.
The body art of choice for the Leavenworth High wrestling team is the back tattoo.
Lawrence High did a fine job Wednesday night making sure Lions fans didn’t see too much of it.
The Lions racked up five pins – all coming in the first period – and mixed in a handful of decisions to secure a commanding 53-18 victory in their first home dual meet of the season.
“It was pretty nice. They seemed to like it,” said senior Cameron Reschke, referring to the partisan crowd crammed into the Lawrence west gym. “The last couple of years we’ve had some problems with (Leavenworth). This year we handled them pretty easily.”

Lawrence High's Cameron Reschke, right, wraps up Leavenworth's Andrew Richie. Reschke won his match, and the Lions won their dual, 53-18, Wednesday at Lawrence High.
No one had as smooth a performance as Reschke. Leavenworth’s Andrew Richie made an ill-fated aggressive move at the outset of their 160-pound match, Reschke immediately seized control, and a mere 36 seconds elapsed before Lawrence had its second pin of the night and a 35-14 lead.
“He shot in, and I just stuck a quick quarter-Nelson in,” Reschke said. “Nolan (Kellerman) told me before the match to go in and get it done quick, and that’s what I did. The opportunity was there, and I took advantage of it.”
Kellerman also practiced what he preached, following up with a pin at 1:54 in the 171-pound match, as the Lions closed out the contest by sticking the Pioneers in four of the final five matches.
Zach Hertzel (135), C.J. Williams (215) and Jake Lorenzo (275) rounded out the pin posse.

Lawrence High grappler Zach Hertzel locks up Leavenworth High's Nathan Dickson. Hertzel won the match, and the Lions beat the Pioneers in Wednesday night's home dual.
His charges’ aggressive attack earned the praise of LHS coach Mark Dulgarian.
“One of the things that we have on our shirts is ‘Relentless Pressure.’ Sometimes we get it done, sometimes we don’t get it done,” Dulgarian said. “If you’re on the offensive, the other guy doesn’t have a shot to get a shot on you.”
The Lions improved to 13-2 in dual meets with just one grudge match remaining – at home Tuesday against Free State.
