Candidate for KU provost to give presentation

Virginia Sapiro, interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is the first of five candidates for the position of provost and executive vice chancellor at Kansas University.

Sapiro will give a public presentation from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday at KU’s Dole Institute of Politics. It will be followed by a public reception.

Other candidates will visit KU between Feb. 1 and Feb. 14. The position is being vacated by David Shulenburger, who is leaving the post in June after 13 years in the job.

Sapiro, 54, also is the associate vice chancellor for teaching at learning and the Sophonisba P. Breckinride professor of political science and women’s studies. She has been a member of the Wisconsin faculty since 1976.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in government from Clark University in Worcester, Mass and a doctoral degree in political science at the University of Michigan.
